The Chili Brothers Play Kinsale Jazz Fest

Posted on October 4th, 2007 by .
Categories: What's On!.

The Chili BrothersFrom the New England music scene come five veteran musicians dedicated to the fine art of “Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler” (otherwise pronounced “Let the Good Times Roll”).

The Chili’s idea of a “Bons Temps” includes groovinated favorites from the legends of New Orleans funk and R&B to fire up your suppressed inner mojo; funkified takes on classic jazz and blues standards to validate your urge to think out of the box; and origilicious tunes straight from the Brothers’ subconcience that will knock you out, wake you up, then knock you out all over again.

The Chili Brothers are:

Tony Medeiros – guitar and vocals
Bruce Mattson – piano, Hammond B3, and vocals
Joe Potenza – bass and vocals
Dan Hann – drums and percussion
Greg Takemoto – alto sax

Gentleman Tim and the ContendersWith their influences deeply rooted in early 50’s style Swing, West Coast and Chicago Blues, Gentleman Tim and the Contenders are one of the hottest bands on the scene today.

Led by the inspirational harmonica player and vocalist Tim Corbett they deliver a brand of high energy jumpin’ blues that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and get your toes tappin’.

Tim Corbett is much admired by audiences and his peers alike and is recognised for his technical mastery of the harmonica and his powerful vocal performance.

Geoff Peel is an experienced, stylish guitar master that gets to the very heart of the music with his irresistible style, slick solo’s and sophisticated chord patterns.

Rob Pokorny is developing a reputation as one of the best young drummers on the London blues scene with a sublime touch and feel for the music he really loves.

Steve Pepe completes the line up with his solid, no nonsense bass anchoring the band with one of the tightest rhythm sections you are ever likely to see.

Kinsale Arts Week

Categories: What's On!.

As restaurants pack, and hotels fill, there is a buzz in the air, and we know that it is that time of year again….Kinsale Arts Week! Muddy Mahers takes great pride in supporting local and international talent and plays a huge role in the festivities. This week, is one of the busiest weeks Kinsale will see this all year and Muddy Mahers is just the place to spend it! The fabulous line up includes the talented and world renowned Carvin Jones, who was named one of the top 50 guitarists in the world by Eric Clapton. This completely outrageous performer and entertainer has come all the way from Arizona and is making a stop in Kinsale before continuing the rest of his European tour. Carvin’s influences include BB King, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray, which is easy to hear in his music. This is one in a life time chance to see an incredibly talented guitarist at work. There is no cover and the show starts at 9:30pm Monday the 9th and Tuesday the 10th. You will NOT be disappointed.
The talent reins for local musicians as well. The superb Jazz band Poles Apart kick off the weekend and soon followed by the genius Pat Crowley Band, Weed Whites and Wine, our resident Seanjohn, Sonny Greenwich Superstars and to finish the packed week Martin Ryan and Hugh Dillon. All in all this week at Muddys will be an action packed non- stop fun, quality music fest!
Frankly Dear, we do give a damn!

Clem Buckley lets rip with the Bleedin' BluesThe Bleedin’ Blues make a return to gigging form on the 23rd of December in Muddy Maher’s. They’ve been on a break since the 8th of September. Clem Buckley — lead guitar — has been undergoing Physiotherapy treatment on his left arm for a repetitive strain injury he’s been dealing with for years.

“It’s been really tough for me the last few months but I’m back playing Guitar again, I’m booked in for surgery in February but the Physio is going well so hopefully won’t need it. Looking forward to the few gig I’ve over Christmas, We’ve been working on a few new Songs and might have a special guest or two for our gigs” “Also I’d like to thank Mairead Harte from Carrigaline Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic for all her great treatment”

The lads our biting at the bit to get going again so this promises to be a great night. They are also playing in Swell on the 30th. Clem and Mike (Bass) also have a acoustic gig with another local favourite David Hope in Swell on the 27th December .

Jazz Weekend @ Muddy’s…

Posted on October 28th, 2006 by .
Categories: What's On!.

Muddy’s is, as ever, proud to present a feast of Jazz & Blues this weekend.

This year we’re even more international than usual…

Gentleman Tin & The Contenders…in from London.

Tim Corbet’s brand of harmonica led, Chicago-Style rhythm ‘n’ blues is superb. Tim is on his third, or fourth, visit to Kinsale’s Fringe Jazz Festival and his repeat inclusion is well justified.

“5 Go Swing!” …in from Wales.

A gypsy-Jazz outfit from Cardiff area, Wales. Great foot-tappin’ stuff. These guys are well regarded in France the home of gypsy jazz! And the French know about these things..

George Kilby Jnr…in from New York City

in his spare time, George is leader of blues legend Pinetop Perkins backing band.

A mean performer on his own too!

Slammers Maximum Jive Band…also from London.

Jump Jive at its best!

These fellows (and Lady Clare on keyboards) will have the joint jumpin’ from the get-go!

The Chili Brothers…from various U.S. cities!

Famous songwriters, if modest. An abundance of talent in this acoustic guitar session.

Nice stuff to start the day with!
